I was recently lucky enough to get the opportunity to learn some lighting tips from a friend of mine who is a fantastic photographer. He set up his home studio with a backdrop and all the equipment necessary for great indoor lighting, then gave me the run down and let me try it out by snapping some photos of him!
The Equipment Used:
- 2 strobe lights. These were small lights placed at opposite sides of the room, pointing towards the set. Increasing the light in the room will increase the ability of the camera to focus.
- 1 octagonal softbox. This was placed behind everything else, to illuminate the set with a soft fill light.
- 1 strip softbox. This was placed to the side of the subject, for the rim light on the right of the subject.
We had a lot of fun with it and got a lot of funny photos, this was one of my favorites. I think the lighting really pops thanks to the equipment Chris provided. It was so cool to see how great photos can turn out straight off the camera when you have proper equipment. I did do a slight darkening and sharpening of this image before posting, just to get it more to my liking.
Moving forward, I now have an idea of what kind of equipment I would like to invest in, and how to set it up. The next thing to figure out is how to make space for equipment in my place :-).
